Box Score OMAHA, Neb. -- Wichita State toppled No. 17 Creighton, 89-68,
Saturday led by Joe Ragland's 24 points and Ben Smith's 22 points in front of
18,735 fans at the CenturyLink Center.
The win improved Wichita State to 22-4 overall this season
and improved the first-place Shockers to 13-2 in Missouri Valley Conference
play, while handing Creighton (21-5, 11-4) its third-straight loss.
The Shockers led by as many as 24 points in the win, which
marked Wichita State's 12th in the last 13 games.
Creighton grabbed an early 8-4 lead before Wichita State
used an 11-0 run to grab the lead for good.
The Bluejays closed to within five points late in the
opening half, but the Shockers extended to a 49-36 lead at halftime.
Ragland went on to score 17 of his 24 points in the second
half. Smith's 22 points tied a career high, as Wichita State shot 58.2 percent
for the game and 50 percent (8-of-16) from three-point range. The Shockers also
finished the game perfect from the free-throw line, making all 17 attempts.
Demetric Williams and Toure' Murry finished with 11 points
each. Williams also led the Shockers with seven rebounds. Foul trouble limited Garrett
Stutz to 13 minutes. He finished with eight points and one rebound.
Wichita State outrebounded Creighton, 37-23, in the game.
Gregory Echenique led Creighton with 16 points.
Wichita State evened the season series with the Bluejays
after losing, 68-61, in Wichita Dec. 31, 2011.
The Shockers return home to host Missouri State at 7:05 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 15 at Charles Koch Arena.
