Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - Elizabeth Field tied a career-high with 19 kills to power Wichita State by conference rival Missouri State Fri. evening in Charles Koch Arena in the annual "Dig Pink" game for WSU. The Shockers won by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 25-17.
Field
collected her 19 kills on 28 swings for a .571 hitting percentage. Chelsey
Feekin added 47 assists and 15 digs while Emily Adney and Katie Reilly each
tallied 11 kills for Wichita State.
Wichita
State (19-7, 12-4) set the tone in the evening's first set jumping out to a 8-4
lead before Missouri State (15-13, 9-7) answered back with four consecutive
points to tie the set, 8-8. The Shockers then scored six of the next seven
points capped by a block from freshman Ashlyn Driskill to stake a 14-9
advantage. The Bears battled back
to tie the match, 22-22, before the Shockers won three of the final four points
to secure the set. Adney's
team-leading fifth kill closed out the set and brought arguably the most raucous
Shocker crowd of the season to their feet. Elizabeth Field also had five kills
for WSU.
In
the second set it was Missouri State running out to an early lead, 17-10, using
superb defense and capitalizing on Shocker miscues. The Shockers had a hitting
percentage of .000 through the set's first 27 points. Ashley Andrade broke the
cold streak for the Shocker offense and WSU went on a, 5-0, run to close to
within two, 17-15. The Shockers grabbed only their second lead of the set,
22-21, on a block by Ashley Andrade and Driskill. Missouri State then refuted
the Shocker rally getting four consecutive kills from Olivia Brand to even the
match one set apiece.
Wichita
State came out of the ten-minute break following the second set on fire riding
the exceptional play of Field to a 16-10 lead. Missouri State answered with a
4-0 run to get within two, 16-14. The Shockers extended their lead back to six,
22-16, with two kills from Andrade and one apiece from Feekin, Adney and Katie
Reilley. Following a pair of points from Missouri State, Field provided an
exclamation point with her eighth kill of the set to give WSU the advantage,
2-1.
Adney
paced the Shockers early in the fourth set pairing with Andrade on a pair of
blocks and adding a kill to get WSU out to a 4-0 lead. Reilly added two kills
and a block in pushing the Shocker lead to 12-4. MSU responded with a 3-0 run
to get within five, 12-7. The Bears would get no closer as WSU dominated the
rest of the way earning the set and match victory. Reilly had a team-high five
kills for WSU in the set.
Wichita
State closes regular season play with home dates against conference leader
Creighton on Fri., Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. and against Drake for senior night Sat.,
Nov. 17.
