Box Score WICHITA, Kan. -
On "Senior Night" honoring Emily Adney and Jackie Church, Wichita State secured
their 20th victory of the season for the 10th straight
year with a sweep of Drake 26-16, 25-20, 25-21.
Elizabeth Field had 15 kills to close out regular season
play for Wichita State (20-8, 13-5) who got eight kills and 36 assists from
junior setter Chelsey Feekin. Church had a team-high 10 digs.
With the first set tied, 10-10, the Shockers went on a 12-2
run powered by junior Elizabeth Field's five kills in a six point span to take
a stranglehold of the set. The Bulldogs (5-24, 4-14) had trouble containing the
duo of Field and Feekin, who combined for 10 kills. Feekin also added eight
assists and three digs as the Shockers hit .355 for the set.
In the second set that featured 14 ties, neither team held
more than a one-point advantage until another kill by Field gave the Shockers a
16-14 lead. Field's kill was the start of a 6-0 run that pushed the Shockers
ahead 20-14. Drake answered the Wichita State run with one of their own collecting
the next three points to cut the Shocker lead in half. Another kill by Field,
whose four kills in the set again tied for a team-high with Ashlyn Driskill and
Ashley Andrade, thwarted the Bulldog rally.
Drake, playing their final match of the season, took a 18-14
advantage on a kill by Katie Dulek in the third set before Wichita State won
the next three points to close within one on a kill by Adney. Adney's service
ace three points later tied the match at 20-20 before an attack error from
Drake gave WSU the lead, 21-20. Wichita State won four of the final five points
to secure the set on a kill by Field.
Wichita State will play in the first round of the Missouri
Valley Conference Tournament Thur., Nov. 22 in Springfield, Mo.
