Box Score CARBONDALE, Ill. - Wichita State used 21 kills from Emily
Adney to defeat Southern Illinois 3-1 and improve to 15-5 on the year. The Shockers (15-5, 8-2) won by scores of
23-25, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-20.
Adney added six assists, three service aces, eight digs and
three blocks and hit .514 in the match.
Ashlyn Driskill added 13 kills, while Ashley Andrade had 11 kills. Chelsey Feekin had seven kills, 49 assists
and 10 digs, while Jackie Church had 16 digs.
A block by Chelsey Feekin and Elizabeth Field gave the
Shocks a 7-4 lead in the first set. WSU
continued to lead throughout the set and took a 20-16 lead on a kill by Field,
but SIU answered with a 6-0 run to take a 22-20 lead. The Shockers tied it at 22, but SIU scored
three of the final four points to take a 25-23 win.
SIU took an early 4-2 lead in the second set, but the Shockers
used a Saluki hitting error to tie it at six.
The teams traded points until kills by Sam Sanders and Field put WSU in
front 14-10. A block by Ashley Andrade and Sanders increased the lead to 21-14
and WSU won the set 25-18 on a kill by Emily Adney.
The third set went back-and-forth until back-to-back service
aces from Adney gave WSU an 8-5 lead.
The Shockers used a 6-0 run to increase the lead to 17-8 and the
Shockers closed out the set 25-15 on back-to-back kills from Feekin.
Back-to-back kills from Ashlyn Driskill put WSU up 8-6 in
the fourth set and an Andrade kill increased the lead to 21-16. The Shockers reached match point at 24-17 on
a kill by Andrade and won the set 25-20 on a kill by Adney.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 20 at
Evansville at 5 p.m.
