Box Score FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Wichita State used 18 kills from Emily
Adney and 17 kills from Camri Zwiesler to knock off No. 14 Colorado State,
3-1. The Shockers (4-3) won by scores of
28-26, 19-25, 25-20 and 25-22.
Adney also added four blocks, while Zwiesler had 12 digs and
a career-high six service aces. Mary
Elizabeth Hooper had 42 assists and six kills and Sarah Waldorf had 17 digs.
The Shockers took an early 3-1 lead in the first set and
increased it to 8-5 on a kill by Hooper.
The Shockers continued to lead until the Rams tied it at 11 with a
service ace. The set went back-and-forth
until CSU took a 20-18 lead with a kill.
A kill by Field and a service ace by Sarah Waldorf tied the score at 20
and then a kill by Ashley Andrade and another Waldorf ace put the Shocks in
front 22-20. The Rams tied it at 22, at
24 and at 26 before the Shockers scored the final two points to win 28-26.
CSU jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead in the second set. A kill by Hooper and a block by Field cut the
lead to 7-5, but the Rams used three-straight points to push the lead to
10-5. The Rams took a 19-11 advantage
and won the set 25-19.
A kill from Camri Zwiesler gave the Shocks an 8-4 lead in
the third set and back-to-back aces by Zwiesler increased the lead to 13-9. CSU cut the lead to 15-12 with a couple of
kills, but back-to-back kills from Zwiesler made the score 21-15. The Shockers closed out the set 25-20 on a
Ram hitting error.
The fourth set went back-and-forth until the Shockers took
an 11-8 lead on a kill by Zwiesler. CSU
answered with five-straight points to go in front 13-11, but the Shockers kept
chipping away at the lead. Back-to-back
Zwiesler kills tied it at 18 and an Adney kill and a Sanders block gave WSU a
20-19 lead. A Zwiesler kill made the
score 22-20, but CSU tied it at 22 with back-to-back kills. The Shockers used a Zwiesler service ace and
Adney kill to win the set 25-22.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Sept. 10 against
Northern Colorado at 12 p.m. (CST).
