Box Score CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - No. 14 UNI earned a thrilling five-set
victory over Wichita State after dropping the first two sets. The Panthers won by scores of 20-25,
24-26, 25-23, 25-23 and 15-13.
Emily Adney led the Shockers with 18 kills, while Camri
Zwiesler added 14 kills and 19 digs.
Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 44 assists and Sarah Waldorf had 32 digs.
UNI got off to a fast start in the first set and took a 5-2
lead. The Shockers came back to
tie it at seven after a Panther hitting error and took their first lead at 9-8
on another hitting error. After a
block by Camri Zwiesler and Ashley Andrade put WSU up 10-8, the two teams
traded points until a kill by Emily Adney, a block by Elizabeth Field and Mary
Elizabeth Hooper and another Field block gave the Shocks a 17-14 lead. UNI tied it at 18, but the Shockers
ended the set on a 7-2 run to win 25-20.
The Panthers took an early 14-10 lead in the second set, but
the Shockers responded with four-straight points to tie it at 14. The teams went back-and-forth until
back-to-back kills from Zwiesler and Adney put WSU in front 23-21. Another Adney kill brought the Shocks
to set point at 24-22, but UNI used back-to-back kills to tie it at 24. WSU closed out the set with a kill from
Hooper and a UNI hitting error to win 26-24.
The third set went back-and-forth until the Panthers
stretched their lead to 20-14. WSU
used a 7-1 run to tie it at 21, but UNI scored four of the final six points to
win 25-23.
UNI again took a big lead in the fourth set by taking a 17-9
lead. The Shockers made another
furious rally by pulling within 21-20 on a kill by Andrade, but WSU could get
no closer than one as UNI won the set 25-23.
The Panthers grabbed a quick 4-1 lead in the fifth set, but
the Shockers used kills from Zwiesler and Sanders to pull within 4-3. Three-straight UNI points put the
Panthers up 7-3, but a Sanders kill brought the Shocks to within 8-7. A kill by Adney gave WSU a 10-9 lead,
but UNI scored four of the next five points to go back in front 13-11. A Field kill cut the lead to 13-12, but
UNI won the set 15-13.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 1 at Bradley
at 7 p.m.
