WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State Shockers continued their winning ways on their current five-match homestand with a three-set victory over Illinois State Saturday. The Shockers won by scores of, 25-11, 25-15, and 25-15.
Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 39 assists to pace the Shocker offense with Emily Adney and Elizabeth Field as the main beneficiaries, with 15 and 11 kills respectively.
The Shockers (7-4, 2-0) struggled early in the first set surrendering a 3-0 lead to Illinois State (8-6, 0-2), but following three consecutive Emily Adney kills, the Shockers cruised the rest of the way, capturing the first set, 25-11.Â
The second set was an extension of the first with Elizabeth Field's four kills leading the Shockers to a comfortable victory, 25-15.
Racing out to an 11-4 lead in the third set, the Shockers completed the sweep of Illinois State in impressive fashion with a balanced attack, 25-15. Sam Sanders provided the final tally for the Shockers to seal the final set.
Wichita State continues its home slate Tuesday, Sept. 20 with a 7 p.m. match with University of Nebraska-Omaha at Charles Koch Arena.
