WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State opened up Missouri Valley
Conference play with a three-set sweep of Indiana State Friday. The
Shockers won by scores of, 25-14, 25-19, 25-15.
Emily Adney's 10 kills and Mary Elizabeth Hooper's 26
assists led the Shockers.
Riding momentum from Wednesday's five-set comeback victory
over No. 22 Oklahoma, the Shockers (6-4) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the
opening set. The Shockers steadily
improved on that margin with four kills from Sam Sanders and five digs from
Mary Elizabeth Hooper, winning the first set, 25-14.
The second set produced more of the same as Wichita State
again raced out to an early lead, 8-3. Powered by Emily Adney's four kills and
four digs from Sarah Waldorf, the Shockers withstood a couple brief Indiana
State rallies to hang on for a 25-19 set victory.
The third set featured three consecutive aces from Camri
Zwiesler as the Shockers dominated the opening stretch of the set to an 8-1
advantage. Wichita State cruised
to the third set victory from there, 25-15.
Indiana State fell to 7-4 overall and 0-1 in Valley play.
The Shockers
continue conference play with a match at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept.
17 at home against Illinois State.
