Box Score FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Wichita State (4-4) dropped a close
match to Northern Colorado, 3-1, in the Rams Volleyball Classic. The Bears won by scores of 25-22, 17-25,
25-22 and 27-25.
Elizabeth Field led the Shockers with 13 kills and four
blocks, while Emily Adney added 12 kills.
Mary Elizabeth Hooper had seven kills, 31 assists, 12 digs and five
blocks.
The Shockers took an early 8-5 lead in the first set, but
UNC battled back to tie it at nine. The
Bears went in front 16-14, but WSU used kills from Camri Zwiesler and Ashley Andrade
to tie the score at 16. UNC scored
three-straight to take a 19-16 lead, but the Shockers answered with
five-straight points to take a 21-19 lead.
The Bears ended the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-22.
UNC grabbed a 9-6 lead in the second set before the Shockers
eventually tied it at 11 after a kill by Hooper. A Bear hitting error increased the Shocker
lead to 16-12 and three-straight points from Emily Adney gave WSU a 19-13
lead. WSU went on to win the set 25-17.
The Bears went up 11-6 in the third set and continued to
hold a big lead at 23-18. The Shockers
scored four-straight to pull within 23-22, but UNC closed out the set with the
final two points to win 25-22.
The fourth set went back-and-forth until the Shockers took a
10-7 lead on an Andrade kill. UNC came
back to tie it at 10 and the teams traded points until the Bears used two kills
and an ace to go up 20-17. The Shockers
tied it at 21 on a service ace by Chelsey Feekin and the teams went
back-and-forth until the Bears scored the final two points to win 27-25.
The Shockers are next in action against Nova KBM Maribor in
an exhibition match today at 5:30 p.m. (CST).
