Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State used back-to-back four run
innings on Sunday afternoon to help them defeat the Creighton Bluejays, 12-3 in
front of a crowd of 3,696 fans at Eck Stadium.
The Shockers improved to 9-6 in the MVC and 30-22 overall
and the Bluejays fall to 10-5 in the MVC and 32-12 overall. Wichita State now sits one game back of
the MVC leading Bluejays with two weeks to go in the regular season.
Micah Green was 3-for-5 with four RBI for the Shockers and
was a home run short of the cycle.
Chris O'Brien was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored and
designated hitter Preston Springer was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Shockers left-hander Josh Smith pitched five innings and
allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four Bluejays to improve to 5-3

Hellhake took the loss to drop his record to 3-3 after he went two innings and
allowed four runs on two hits and walked four.
Johnny Coy drove in the Shockers first run of the game with
an RBI groundout in the first inning.
Springer singled to left-center to plate O'Brien to push their lead to
2-0. O'Brien had doubled to extend
his hitting streak to 17 games.
After back-to-back walks to Kevin Hall and O'Brien in the
third inning, Creighton brought in new pitcher, Chase Webb to face Coy. Webb threw four straight balls to load
the bases for Springer, who drove home Hall with an RBI groundout to push the
Shocks lead to 3-0. Don Lambert
would draw another walk for the Shocks and that brought up Green who hit a
liner off of Webb to score O'Brien and give the Shocks a 4-0 lead. Walker Davidson followed and drilled the
first pitch from Webb up the middle to give the Shockers two more runs and make
it 6-0.
Springer added another run to make it 7-0 in the fourth
inning with an RBI double to score O'Brien, who had singled. Walks to Tyler Coughenour and Lambert
loaded the bases for Green, who again delivered this time with an RBI double to
clear the bases and push the Shockers lead to 10-0.
Creighton's Gabriel Thibodeaux put the Bluejays on the
scoreboard, 10-1 in the fifth inning with an inside the park home run. Lambert made a tremendous effort on the
high carrying shot to right field but was unable to hold onto the ball as he
crashed into the wall.
Trever Adams knocked Smith out of the game in the sixth
inning with his two-run home run over the left field wall to cut into the
Shocks lead, 10-3. Right-hander
Chance Sossamon came in for the Shockers and retired the next three batters to
end the inning.
The Shockers added their final two runs in the seventh
inning cap their Mother's Day win, 12-3.
Wichita State will host Oral Roberts on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
