Box Score PEORIA, Ill. - Wichita State used a season-high four home
runs to come back and defeat Bradley 8-6 in game one of a three-game series.
Chris O'Brien went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a home run,
while Johnny Coy went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a double and a home run.
Reliever Cale Elam earned the win. He pitched 1.2 shutout innings to improve to
4-1 on the year.
Kevin Hall hit his third home run of the season in the first
inning to give the Shocks a 1-0 lead.
The Braves tied the game with a run in the second. Jerrod Eigsti singled with one out and then
scored on a double by Jason Leblebijian.
BU used three singles in the third to take a 2-1 lead and
then in the fourth scored three unearned runs off Lowell to go in front 5-1.
After a one out walk to Kevin Hall in the sixth, Chris O'Brien
homered to left field to cut the lead to 5-3.
With two outs, Preston Springer then homered to right field to make the
score 5-4.
The Braves got a run back with a home run from Rob Elliott
in the sixth to go up 6-4, but a two-run home run from Johnny Coy tied the game
at six in the eighth.
The Shockers loaded the bases in the ninth with one out, but
needed a Bradley error with two outs to score two runs and take the 8-6 lead.
The Shockers and the Braves will finish the series
on Fri., May 20 with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.
