Box Score Manhattan, Kan. - The Kansas State Wildcats defeated the
Wichita State Shockers, 5-2 on Wednesday night at Tointon Family Stadium. The Wildcats scored all four runs in
the third inning to improve to 19-13 and the defeat dropped Wichita State to
21-15 on the season.
Blake Freeman (2-1) earned the win and James Allen earned
his tenth save of the season for Kansas State.
TJ McGreevy (0-1) took the loss for the Shockers. He went 3.2 innings and allowed four
runs (one earned) on three hits.
The Shockers wasted no time in the first inning when Tyler
Grimes led off with a single up the middle and Kevin Hall followed with a double
to plate Grimes. Catcher Chris
O'Brien made it 2-0 with his single to score Hall.
Kansas State answered in the bottom of the third to take a
4-2 lead over the Shocks. Dan
Klein started the inning with a single followed by Shane Conlon who reached on
an error by Tyler Coughenour on his sacrifice bunt attempt. They each advanced
on a wild pitch by TJ McGreevy and an error by Grimes allowed Klein to score. Designated hitter Mike Kindel gave the
Wildcats the lead with his two-run home run to leftfield.
Hall finished one-for-four with a run scored and one RBI and O'Brien went one-for-four with one RBI for Wichita State.
The Wildcats used a single, a stolen base and two wild
pitches to add a run, 5-2 in the eighth.
Wichita State will host Evansville this weekend for three
games, starting on Friday for game one with a first pitch of 6:30 p.m.
