Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas - Wichita State lost the final game of its
road trip to Texas to UT Arlington 9-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Chris O'Brien went 2-for-4 with a double, while Walker
Davidson went 2-for-3 and Ryan Hege went 2-for-4. Starter Tobin Mateychick took the loss. Grant Muncrief pitched 3.2 shutout innings in
relief.
The Mavericks used an unearned run in the first to jump out
to a 1-0 lead. WSU answered with a run
in the top of the second. Ryan Hege led
off the inning with a single through the left side, advanced to second on a
passed ball and moved to third on an infield single by Dayne Parker. Hege came around to score on a double play ball
to tie the game at one.
UTA added four more runs in the second inning off of four
hits, a walk and two wild pitches to take a 5-1 lead. The Shockers tacked on another run in the
fourth to cut the lead to 5-2.
Two Shocker errors led to three more runs for UTA in the
seventh inning to make the score 8-2 and the Mavs added a run in the eighth
inning. A sac fly from Tyler Coughenour
in the ninth made the score 9-3.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., March 11 when they
play at Tulane. First pitch is scheduled
for 6:30 p.m.
