Box Score DALLAS, Texas - Wichita State (8-1) used three RBI each from
Johnny Coy and Chris O'Brien for an 11-2 win over New Orleans.
Coy finished 2-for-2 with a double, while O'Brien went
2-for-5 with a home run.
Starter Josh Smith earned the win going five innings and
giving up one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts.
The Privateers got on the board in the first inning with two
singles and a Shocker error to take a 1-0 lead.
WSU answered with four runs in the bottom of the first. After a bunt single from leadoff hitter Kevin
Hall, Tyler Grimes drew a four-pitch walk and Preston Springer singled to third
base to load the bases. An infield
single from Johnny Coy scored Hall and a groundout by Chris O'Brien scored
Grimes. Dayne Parker then hit a
sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Springer and Coy came home on a double
down the left field line by Ryan Hege.
UNO used three-straight singles in the second inning to cut
the lead to 4-2.
A Walker Davidson two-run triple in the third increased the
lead to 6-2 WSU added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings for an 8-2
lead.
The Shockers added three more in the eighth highlighted by
an RBI double from Coy and a two-run home run
from O'Brien.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., March 5 against
Dallas Baptist at 6:30 p.m.
