Box Score 2 EUGENE, Ore. - Wichita State (16-7) split a doubleheader with
No. 24 Oregon (13-8). The Ducks won the
first game 2-1 and the Shockers won the second game 6-5.
Game 1
Wichita State fell in game one of a doubleheader to No. 24
Oregon 2-1.
Johnny Coy and Walker Davidson both went 2-for-4, while
Kevin Hall drove in the lone Shocker run.
Tim Kelley took the loss and went six innings and gave up
one earned run on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
The Ducks threatened in the first inning with two singles
and a walk to load the bases with nobody out.
Tim Kelley then got a lineout to third and two strikeouts to end the
threat.
The Shockers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third
inning. Walker Davidson led off with a
double to left field, advanced to third on a bunt from Tyler Grimes and scored
on a single to centerfield by Kevin Hall.
The Ducks tied the score at one in the fourth inning. With two outs, Brett Thomas singled to third
base and after a fielders choice by KC Serna, Thomas came around to score on a
Shocker throwing error.
Oregon took the lead with a run in the sixth inning. Ryon Healy led off with a walk and after a
sacrifice bunt, he stole third and scored on a fielders choice.
Game 2
Wichita State fell behind 4-0 but came back to take a 6-5
win and even the series with No. 24 Oregon.
Chris O'Brien went 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Tyler
Coughenour went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Reliever Cale Elam earned the win.
He pitched two innings and allowed one run.
Chance Sossamon threw four shutout innings of relief with
three strikeouts.
The Ducks used four-straight hits to score three runs in the
second inning to take a 3-0 lead. A sac
fly in the third increased the lead to 4-0.
The Shockers tied the score at four in the fifth. With one out Josh Halbert singled to left
field and Tyler Grimes walked. After a
flyout, Preston Springer singled to load the bases. Chris O'Brien singled to right centerfield to
cut the lead to 4-2 and then after a walk to Johnny Coy, Tyler Coughenour
singled up the middle to tie the score at four.
The Shockers took their first lead of the game in the ninth. After a leadoff walk to Halbert, Grimes and
Hall both had bunt singles to load the bases.
With one out, O'Brien singled to left field to drive in Halbert and
Grimes and give the Shocks a 6-4 lead.
The Ducks loaded the bases in the ninth with one out and
scored on a sac fly to right field to cut the lead to 6-5, but Cale Elam got
the final batter of the game to flyout to preserve the 6-5 win.
The two teams will meet again at 2 p.m. (CST ) on Sat.,
March 26. The game will be televised on
Kansas 22.
