Box Score TULSA, Okla. - The Shockers won in Tulsa for the first time
since 1994 by defeating Oral Roberts 7-2 on Tuesday night at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
Don Lambert went 2-for-2 with four RBI and a grand slam for
the Shockers. Reliever Brian Flynn
earned the win and went three innings with one hit, one run, five walks and two
strikeouts.
Tim Kelley pitched four shutout innings and allowed just
three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in the no decision.
The Shockers got on the board in the top of the fifth
inning. Garrett Bayliff led off the
inning with a double down the right field line and then Don Lambert drew a
walk. Walker Davidson bunted them over a
base and Kevin Hall grounded out to second to score Bayliff for a 1-0 Shocker
lead.
ORU tied the score at one in the bottom of the seventh on an
RBI single from Bennett Pickar. Reliever
Brian Flynn got out of the inning allowing just one run despite walking four
and allowing the RBI single.
Hall led off the eighth inning with a walk and moved to
second on a single by Tyler Grimes.
After a flyout from Preston Springer, Johnny Coy ripped a double into
the left center gap to score Hall and give WSU a 2-1 lead. An intentional walk to Chris O'Brien loaded
the bases and Erik Harbutz drew a walk to drive in Grimes for a 3-1 Shocker
advantage. After a strikeout, Don
Lambert smacked the first pitch he saw to right field for his first career home run, a grand slam to give WSU a 7-1
lead.
ORU loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth with no
outs, but Cale Elam came in the game and got a double play ball and a strikeout
to limit the damage to one run.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Feb. 25 when they
host North Dakota at 3 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
