Denton, Texas - The Wichita State Shockers (3-2,
1-0) defeated the No. 62 North Texas Mean Green (1-3), 5-2 Friday afternoon at the
Waranach Tennis Complex.
"Delia and Carla continue to play very solid doubles," head
coach Colin Foster said. "Our other two
teams have showed signs of good doubles but haven't maintained the focus and
decision-making we'd like to see. We
challenged them to improve on those things in the singles and we did across the
board."
WSU lost the doubles point after Zotter/Budiharto lost a tough #2 match 8-5 to Amy Joubert and Paula Dinuta. Freshman Montse Blasco Fernandez clinched the match for the Shockers
with her defeat of Carolina Barboza, 6-1, 6-2.
"This was a very good team victory and we'll look to
continue improving during our next opportunity to compete on Sunday," Foster
said.
Next action for the Shockers will be this Sunday afternoon
when the Oklahoma State Cowgirls travel to Wichita.
The match will be played at Wichita Country Club and will start at 4
p.m.
