Shockers Stumble in Second Half at Illinois St.

2/10/2011 10:40:00 PM

Normal, Ill. - Illinois State used a second half surge to remain unbeaten at home and top the Wichita State women's basketball team, 69-60, Thursday night at Redbird Arena.  Jazimen Gordon compiled a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double in the defeat.

Illinois State shot over 61% from the floor in the second half to wipe out a 30-28 Shocker lead at halftime.  The Redbirds also attempted 34 free throws for the game as three Shockers fouled out of the contest.

Jessica Diamond led Wichita State in scoring with 15 points.  Haleigh Lankster added 13 with eight rebounds and two steals.  Gordon's 12 points came on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and a 2-for-2 effort at the free throw line.

The two teams traded the lead six times and endured four ties, most of which came in the game's first 25 minutes.  A Heather Robben three-pointer, her first in MVC competition this year, gave WSU its last lead at 40-39 with 14:19 remaining.

The Shockers cut the deficit to two points, 50-48, at the 8:52 mark on a Lankster layup that capped a 6-0 spurt but Illinois State responded with a 9-0 run over the next 2:51 to take control.

Wichita State wraps up the road trip Saturday afternoon at Indiana State with a 2:35 tipoff (CT) from the Hulman Center.
