Box Score NORMAL, Ill. -- Wichita State picked up an eighth-straight win against Illinois State with a 3-0 volleyball road win Friday at Redbird Arena.
The Shockers won with scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-20 to improve to 18-9 overall and 12-5 in Missouri Valley Conference play this season. The Shockers have not lost to the Redbirds since 2007.
Emily Adney led the Shockers with a match-high 16 kills and Camri Zwiesler picked up a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs. Mary Elizabeth Hooper's match-high 39 assists and Sarah Waldorf's 17 digs led the Shockers. Ashley Andrade added 11 kills.
Shannon McLaughlin led the Redbirds with 12 kills. Kristin Stauter had 35 assists and Jenny Menendez had 17 digs for Illinois State.
The first set went back-and-forth with both teams trading the lead four times and tying the score 10 times. An Andrade kill gave the Shockers a 10-8 lead, but Illinois State fought back to take a 13-10 lead on two Shocker attack errors and a block by Tabitha Visk and Ciera Lucich.
The Shockers regained the lead, 19-18, on a kill by Andrade, but Illinois State tied the score again, 20-20. Wichita State closed the first set on a five-point run to win, 25-20.
In the second set, Illinois State grabbed an early 5-3 lead. A Jackie Church service ace, followed by a Hooper kill later gave the Shockers a 6-5 edge.
Three-straight kills by Adney, followed by a Sam Sanders, block gave the Shockers a 16-11 edge. Two Adney kills closed out a 25-19 Shocker win in the second set.
A kill by Zwiesler gave Wichita State a 7-4 edge in the third set. An attack error by Illinois State gave the Shockers a 14-10 lead later on. Three-straight points by the Redbirds cut the WSU lead to 15-14. A serving error by Illinois State's Visk ended the set in a 25-20 Shocker win.
The Shockers' team hitting percentage was .128 in the first set, but they came back to hit .318 in each of the next two sets in the win.
The Shockers close out the regular season on the road at 6 p.m. Saturday against Indiana State.
