WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State earned a sweep over Evansville
on senior night as junior Emily Adney recorded a match-high 23 kills. The Shockers won by scores of 25-20,
25-18, and 25-21.
Adney's 23 kills rank as the top performance in a three-set
match during the rally scoring era (2001-present) and the second most in a
three-set match all-time to Janelle Watton's 28 kills in 1991. Senior Mary Elizabeth Hooper collected
a match-high 46 assists, while senior Camri Zwiesler had a double-double with
14 kills and 15 digs and senior Sarah Waldorf finished with a match-high 19
digs.
The two teams raced out to a 10-10 tie in the first set
before the Shockers took a 14-12 lead with a block by Elizabeth Field and Emily
Adney. UE came back to take the
lead 15-14, but the Shockers used three-straight kills from Adney to go back in
front 17-15. WSU went on to win
the set 25-20.
The Shockers jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead in the second
set after a kill by Sam Sanders.
UE rallied to pull within 18-17 on a kill by Rachel TenHoor, but the
Shockers scored seven of the final eight points to win 25-18.
WSU took control of the third set early as back-to-back
Adney kills put WSU up 7-2. A kill
by Sanders increased the lead to 18-13 and WSU went on to win the set 25-21.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Nov. 18 at Illinois
State at 7:05 p.m.
