WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State used 12 kills from Emily Adney
to sweep Southern Illinois. The
Shockers won by scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-23.
Adney led WSU with 12 kills, while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had
33 assists and Sarah Waldorf had 12 digs.
Back-to-back kills by Ashley Andrade put the Shocks up 16-11
in the first set. WSU closed out
the set 25-15 after an SIU hitting error.
The two teams raced out to a 9-9 tie in the second set
before two more Andrade kills gave WSU a 14-11 lead. The Salukis cut the lead to 17-16 after a couple of blocks
and a service ace, but the Shockers responded with a kill from Camri Zwiesler
and a block by Elizabeth Field and Sam Sanders to go in front 19-16. Back-to-back Emily Adney kills ended
the set 25-19.
Southern Illinois jumped out to early 3-0 third set lead
before the Shockers regained momentum and took control thanks to five kills in
the set by Adney. The Saluki's staged a late rally taking a 19-18 lead before pulled
back ahead to claim the set, 25-23.
The Shockers finish the home portion of the schedule on
Sat., Nov. 12 against Evansville at 7 p.m. Senior night will get underway at 6:50 p.m.
