WICHITA, Kan. - Shocker sophomore Sam Sanders picked up a
match-high 13 kills to lead Wichita State to a 3-0 win against Creighton
Saturday in a Missouri Valley Conference match in front of 2,834 at Charles
Koch Arena.
The Shockers improved to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in conference
play as senior Mary Elizabeth Hooper totaled 32 assists and senior Sarah
Waldorf got nine digs. Senior Camri Zwiesler had a match-high three service
aces.
Creighton dropped to 10-9 overall and 5-2 in the Valley.
Laurel Sanford had a team-high 10 kills for the Bluejays and Julianne Mandolfo
had 11 digs.
The first set went back-and-forth with the score tied,
7-7. The Shockers then grabbed a
15-8 lead with a couple of kills from Ashley Andrade and Sanders and increased
it to 21-13 with another Andrade kill.
WSU won the set 25-17 on a kill from Zwiesler. Sanders and Andrade both finished with four kills in the
first set.
A kill by Emily Adney gave the Shockers an early 8-6 lead in
the second set and back-to-back service aces from Zwiesler put the Shocks in
front 18-10. WSU closed out the
set 25-15 after a CU attack error.
An Elizabeth Field kill boosted Wichita State to a 13-10
lead in the third set. A Creighton kill by Megan Bober tied the score, 15-15,
but the Shockers answered with an Adney kill to take the lead for good. A
Creighton attack error gave the Shockers the match-winning point, 25-22.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Oct. 14 at
Evansville.
