Norman, Okla. - The Wichita State Shockers women's
tennis team fell to the #39th ranked Oklahoma Sooners, 5-2 on Sunday. The match was played at the Headington Family
Tennis Center.
WSU picked up a doubles win from two of their newest
freshman, Carla Venticinque and Montse Blasco Fernandez who defeated Whitney
Richie and Maria Kalashnikova, 8-5.
The Shockers picked up two singles wins from Delia Damaschin
and Veronika Blaskova. Damaschin
defeated Whitney Richie, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 position and Blaskova knocked
off Marie-Pier Huet, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 position.
"We competed hard today, WSU head coach Colin Foster
said. "They are a talented team and we
were in the fight from the beginning.
While it's disappointing because we had an opportunity to pull this
match out I feel strongly this team will build on the many positives from this
match and we will get better and stronger as the year progresses."
