Box Score CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -No. 17 UNI defeated Wichita State in
three sets to move to 2-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play, while the
Shockers fall to 1-1. The Panthers won
by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-23.
Emily Adney led the Shockers with 11 kills, while Mary Elizabeth
Hooper had 32 assists and Sarah Waldorf had 18 digs.
UNI jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set before
the Shockers pulled to within 8-7 on a kill by Emily Adney. The Panthers again opened a lead at 14-10,
but a kill by Amanda Backes cut the lead to one again at 14-13. Another Adney kill tied the scoer at 15, but
WSU would not take a lead in the set until a kill by Elizabeth Field put the
Shocks in front 21-20. UNI answered with
two-straight points to regain the lead at 22-21 and held on for the 25-23 win.
The Panthers went up 8-3 in the second set before
three-straight Shocker kills cut the lead to 8-6. Two kills and a service ace increased UNI's
lead to 15-8 and the Shockers never climbed back in the set as UNI won 25-18.
UNI controlled the third set early before a 4-0 Shocker run
pulled WSU to within 16-13. A hitting
error by the Panthers made the scored 19-17 and back-to-back kills by Backes
and Sara McGee pulled WSU to 21-19. The
two teams traded points, but UNI held on to win 25-23.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 24 when they
host Illinois State in Charles Koch Arena at 7 p.m.
