Box Score PEORIA, Ill. - Wichita State opened up Missouri Valley
Conference play with a sweep of Bradley.
The Shockers (8-2, 1-0) won by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17.
Camri Zwiesler led the Shockers with 13 kills, while Emily
Adney had 12 and Amanda Backes and Sarah McGee each had nine. Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 39 assists and
Sarah Waldorf added 13 digs.
The two teams went back-and-forth in the first set until the
Braves grabbed an 8-6 lead. Back-to-back
kills from Amanda Backes and Sarah McGee tied the score at eight, but BU went
back in front by two at 10-8 with a block.
The Shockers responded to take the lead at 12-11 with a kill from Camri
Zwiesler and WSU took control of the set with two kills each from Backes,
Zwiesler and McGee to win the set 25-17.
Back-to-back kills by Emily Adney gave the Shockers an 11-7
advantage in the second set and a kill by Elizabeth Field increased the lead to
15-9. The Braves pulled to within 19-15
with a service ace, but the Shockers used two more Adney kills, a Backes kill
and a service ace by Jackie Church down the stretch to win 25-18.
BU took an early 11-9 lead in the third set, but
back-to-back service aces by Field gave WSU a 13-11 lead. Behind the serving of Field, the Shockers
increased the lead to 17-11 and back-to-back Adney kills put WSU up 22-14. WSU closed out the set with a 25-17 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Sept. 18 against
No. 17 Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 7:30 p.m.
