Box Score PROVO, Utah - Wichita State used a career-high 18 kills from
Camri Zwiesler to earn a three-set victory over Houston. The Shockers (4-2) won by scores of 25-14,
25-20 and 25-22.
Elizabeth Field added nine kills and Emily Adney had eight
as the Shockers hit .356 in the match.
Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 39 assists, while Sarah Waldorf added 10 digs.
The teams raced out to a 5-5 tie in the first set before
back-to-back kills from Elizabeth Field and Emily Adney, a service ace by Sarah
Waldorf and a UH hitting error led to a Cougar timeout and a 9-5 WSU lead. A Cougar kill pulled UH within 10-8, but back-to-back
Shocker blocks put WSU in front 12-8 and the Shockers used four kills, two
blocks and a service ace to increase the lead to 20-9. A kill by Field ended the set at 25-14.
The second set went back-and-forth until a kill by Sarah
McGee gave the Shocks a 13-10 lead. A
kill by Emily Adney and a block by Ashley Andrade and Camri Zwiesler increased
the lead to 17-13. Back-to-back Cougar
kills pulled UH within 19-16, but the Shockers responded with back-to-back
kills from Field and Zwiesler to go back in front by five. WSU closed out the set 25-20 with a kill by
McGee.
Another kill from Zwiesler gave the Shocks a 12-10 advantage
in the third set and back-to-back Cougar hitting errors increased the lead to
22-16. The Shocks used another Zwiesler
kill to go up 24-19, but UH used three-straight kills to make the score
24-22. A Field kill ended the set 25-22.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Sept. 11 when they
take on Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m.
