Box Score NORMAN, Okla. - Wichita State opened the 2010 season with a
sweep over Oklahoma. The Shockers won by
scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-19.
Camri Zwiesler led the Shockers with 12 kills and 10 digs,
while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 20 assists and Sarah Waldorf and Chelsey Feekin
each had 10 digs.
The Shockers started strong taking a 25-20 win in the first
set. Three-straight Shocker kills put
WSU up 13-8 and a service ace by Chelsey Feekin increased it to 16-11. OU used a 3-0 run to pull within 22-20, but
the Shockers finished off the set with a kill by Sara McGee, an OU hitting
error and a service ace by Emily Adney.
WSU used a comeback to win the second set 25-21. After a kill by Camri Zwiesler tied the score
at five, the Sooners went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-6 advantage. The Shockers used three-straight blocks to
tie the score at 18 and then after that went on a 7-3 run to close out the set.
The Shockers jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third set, but
OU came back to tie it at 11 with back-to-back kills. WSU responded with five-straight points to
take a 16-11 lead and then cruised to the 25-19 win.
WSU is next in action on Sat., Aug. 28 against Miami, Fla.,
at 10 a.m. and then again at 5 p.m. against UT-Arlington.
