Wichita State vs. Evansville Quotes

Wichita State Head Coach opening statement:
“1:48 in the morning, I don't know how long it's been since I've stayed up this late.  Well, it obviously wasn't pretty.  We made a lot of mistakes, tonight.  We were fortunate to win.  It was a great job by Charlie Lowell.  We got some key hits, they were few and far between, but we were able to pick up some runs.  We answered them every time they would get some runs in the 6th, 7th and 8th.  I know a lot of people said we made silly mistakes, you have to remember two things: this is a long day for everybody and after it hits midnight there gets to be a dew on any type of field.  It was a little bit slick, slippery.  There are always reasons for things, and it's not because guys were choking.  The end result was we won; I am thankful. “

Wichita State Junior infielder Preston Springer on the rain delay:
“We just got to stay up.  I don't think the weather played a big part.  We were going to be ready either way.  Plus, we were ready to get out there and play.  It was kind of hard waiting that long, but we were happy we got the game in.  It was a tough game; Heithoff did a great job.  He was really keeping us off balance, but as a team we battled through it.  My hat goes off to them, but we're glad to out of here with a 'W.'”

Evansville Head Coach Wes Carroll opening statement:
“For the people that were still here got treated to an unbelievable game.  Our team showed a lot of fighting character the entire year.  It showed me an extra gear that I didn't see coming; they showed me a lot.  What I told them at the end of the game was that our seniors really changed the cultural around here.  All the seniors really stepped up as leaders on the field and off the field.  We were able to see that today.  I am really proud of them.  What an unbelievable baseball game.  Tom Heithoff earned the respect of his teams by the effort we saw from him.”

Evansville Senior Tom Heithoff on pitching performance:

“I was just trying to go out there and give the team a chance to win.  I knew I hadn't thrown at all, and I knew we needed a lot of innings from me.  I just gave everything I had.  I think I did a pretty good job.”
