Indiana State v. Creighton2 - Quotes

Indiana State Head Coach Rick Heller opening statement:

"I was real happy with our hitters today. I thought we came out and had good focus for pretty much all the at-bats all day long. We did a good job laying off sliders down. We put pressure on them all day long and Jason Van Skike gave us a decent start. I mean, you never like to give up runs after you score runs and unfortunately we did that in the third. We put up a three-spot then went out and gave up a three-spot. Then he settled in and gave us a couple good innings after that. Then Kevin Mann came in and did a really nice job and really slowed them down. We had a little problem there in the ninth, but (Brandon) Flora and (Scott) Harlan came in and did a good job. So, it was a good day. Kyle (Burnam) had a good day and made a big catch to rob a homerun. Overall I was real pleased with our performance."

Indiana State Sophomore left fielder Kyle Burnam on his catch at the left-field wall in the bottom of the fourth inning:

"The pitchers throw strikes and we just want to make good plays behind them. The ball was hit well, but it wasn't hit that well. It was going toward the stands and then Straus was talking to me out there and told me to time it and just finally went up and got it. "

Creighton Head Coach Ed Servais opening statement:

"Indiana State just was a little bit better fundamentally than we were. We had several breakdowns, which was a little surprising for me to see. Even though the error column only indicates two, we had probably at least two or three other mental mistakes that we made throughout the game that Indiana State took advantage of. So, we weren't very sharp in trips today like we needed to be against a team like that and to their credit they took advantage of it, and they move on."

Creighton Junior left fielder Trever Adams, who hit two home runs:

"It's unfortunate just because (Kurt) Spomer did pitch really well. I feel terrible because our seniors. If you look at it on paper we are a better team than Indiana State and we should have won that game. We were in the game and I really, really thought, I really believed that we were going to win it, but we just couldn't fight back hard enough."
