No. 3 Seed Indiana State Defeats No. 6 seed Creighton, 9-7

Game 9 of State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Tournament

WICHITA, KAN. - No. 3 seed Indiana State (35-18) held off a late-game rally by No. 6 seed Creighton (27-25), 9-7, in the second elimination game of Bracket A Thursday morning at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Eck Stadium.

ISU's left fielder Kyle Burnham led six multiple-hit Sycamore performers at the plate with three hits, while knocking in two runs.

ISU starter, got no decision after a five-inning effort that surrendered four runs, three which were earned while he struck out eight. Kevin Mann, who came in relief went three innings while holding CU scoreless  on two hits.

A two-run homerun from Creighton left fielder Trevor Adams knotted the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning.

Creighton broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Right fielder TJ Roemmich reached first base on a fielder's choice, scoring Elliot Soto to take the lead.

Indiana State took the lead at in the top of the seventh inning with two runs. Left fielder Kyle Burnam's double to left field scored Ryan Strausborger. Burnam later scored as Robby Ort reached on a fielder's choice.

The Sycamores extended their lead with three runs off three hits in the top of the eighth inning. Jordan Pearon scored on a hit from Strausborger. Burnam singled to right center to advance Strausborger to third base. Luke Fieser's double to center field scored Strausborger and advanced Burnam to third. Robby Ort's fly to center field scored Burnam.

Creighton's Ian Dike fouled out to close out the bottom of the eighth inning, leaving runners at first and third base.

Shortstop Ben Ferrell's double in the top of the ninth inning added to Indiana State's run total, scoring Tyler Graham for a 9-4 lead with two outs.

A three-run homerun from Creighton's Adams brought the Bluejays within two runs of Indiana State with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Adams' homer to left center scored Soto and Alex Staehely. Adams led all players with five RBI.

Indiana State advances to play No. 2 seed Illinois State at 4 p.m. Thursday.
