Evansville Head Coach Wes Carroll opening statement:“Our first time here in a couple of years, I think we came out extremely tight in the first four innings. We didn't execute at the plate. Then we got a big lift from Greg Wallace; it took a lot of pressure off in the 5th inning. Cody Fick lifted us up with a big blast. That really gave us a lift and confidence and kind of calmed everybody down. Keegan Dennis went out there, shoving for the first five innings-giving us a chance. Everybody was tight for the first game of the tournament; it's a lot of excitement. I'm really proud of how we finished in the later innings.”
Evansville Junior outfielder Greg Wallace on the uneasy start: “I think we are a young team. It being the first game of the tournament, we were nervous. I was a little nervous. We came out and got a chance to put some runs up.”
Evansville Senior pitcher Keegan Dennis on the challenge of pitches:“That's pretty much what it is. That is what it boils down to-at certain times you have to step up and make that strike pitch or keep a curveball low. You have to make that big pitch. I know that if I can do that in the early innings and I can see I am making those pitches successful, it's going to be a good day. I knew everybody was a little nervous, but I had no reservations about the team ever coming through for me. I was never scared when we didn't score for the first four innings. I know with this line-up just give them time and they will explode.”
Southern Illinois Head Coach Dan Callahan on possible opportunities:“Keegan threw well, as much as he changed speeds and pitched backwards. Even when he was struggling, I thought he was living on the edge. We were a big hit or two away from getting back in the game. We couldn't produce from that.”
Southern Illinois Senior pitcher Nathan Forer on the 5th inning:“They are a good hitting ball club. I made some mistakes and they hit them hard. I just let them get in my head.”
