                    Box Score NORMAL, Ill. - 
Illinois State evened the three-game Missouri Valley Conference series
with the Shockers by taking game two 18-8 in eight innings.
Preston Springer went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two
doubles, while Will Baez went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Reliever Grant Muncrief
took the loss.
WSU got on the board in the second inning.  Cody Lassley was hit by a pitch to lead off
the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Travis Bennett singled through the right side
to move Lassley to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Johnny Coy to give
WSU a 1-0 lead.
The Redbirds scored three runs in the second off of starter
Josh Smith.  Ryan Court led off the inning
with a home run and Kevin Tokarski had a two-run single to give the Redbirds a
3-1 lead.
The Shockers scored six more runs in the third to go up
7-3.  The inning was highlighted by
doubles from Will Baez and Preston Springer and singles from Cody Lassley,
Travis Bennett, Ryan Jones and Bret Bascue.
ILS cut the lead to 7-5 with two runs in the third off of
reliever TJ McGreevy and tied the score at seven with two runs in the fourth.  An unearned run in the fifth put the Redbirds
in front 8-7.
The Shockers tied it at eight with a run in the sixth.  Baez hit a two-out double to left centerfield
and then Springer doubled down the right field line to tie the score.
The Redbirds answered with four runs in the sixth to go back
in front 12-8 and added another two runs in the seventh to make the score 14-8.  ILS finished with four runs in the eighth to
make the final score 18-8.
The Shockers and Redbirds finish the series on Sun., May 2
at 1 p.m.
