WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State won its fourth-straight game
with a 12-7 win over Rogers State.
Johnny Coy went 2-for-4 with five RBI and his first career
grand slam. Ryan Jones went 2-for-4 with
three RBI and a home run. Reliever TJ
McGreevy earned the win.
The Shockers got on the board in the bottom of the first
inning. Garrett Bayliff and Tyler Grimes
led off the inning with walks and both advanced into scoring position on a wild
pitch. Ryan Jones singled through the
right side to drive them both in for a 2-0 lead. Jones stole second, advanced to third on a
groundout and scored on a single up the middle by Johnny Coy to put the Shocks
in front 3-0.
The Hillcats answered in the top of the second inning with a
three-run home run from Zach Hamby to tie the score at three.
WSU responded with three more runs in the second, but RSU
added one more in the third and two more in the fourth to tie the score at six.
The Shockers scored five more in the fourth highlighted by a
grand slam from Coy to put the Shocks in front 11-6. RSU tacked on another run in the sixth and a
Jones home run in the sixth for the Shocks made the score 12-7.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., April 9 when they
host Southern Illinois. First pitch is
scheduled for 7 p.m.
