Tex. -- Jamie Hull crushed two home runs while Kasha Kolb had another dominate apparence as the Wichita State softball team split a two-game set, dropping game one to Boise State, 4-3, but rebounding to defeat host Texas Tech, 5-2, during the second day of competition at the Texas Tech Tournament.
Game 1

The
Shockers were able to score twice in the bottom of the seventh but were unable
to complete the comeback, falling to the Boise State University Broncos by a
score of 4-3.
Heather
Gerritse was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Wichita State. Kiersten Dixon and Sammie Shook each went
1-for-4 with a run scored.
Holly
Bourke had two hits in three trips to the plate with a run scored and an RBI
for BSU.
Wichita
State was able to score first on an RBI single from Heather Gerritse in the
bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead.
The WSU advantage was short lived as Boise State countered in the top
half of the fourth as Kathy Cox tallied her fourth home run of the season, a
two-run shot over the left-center field fence to put the Broncos up 2-1. After Wichita State was able to get the
first out of the inning, Bourke followed with her first home run on the year, a
solo shot to increase the BSU lead to 3-1.
WSU
loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fourth but were unable to
capitalize as Bronco starting pitcher Ashley Collier escaped the jam by getting
the batter to fly out to end the inning.
Boise
State used the long ball again to their advantage as Jessi Hanna was the third
Bronco to tally a home run, another solo shot, as the Shockers were able to
keep the damage to a minimum and find themselves down only 4-1.
Hanna
finished going 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Boise State while Cox
was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
Jamie
Hull had two hits and an RBI in four trips to the dish for WSU.
Brianna
Smet started for the Shockers and went 3 1/3 innings before giving way to
Hull. Katie Armagost held the Broncos
hitless over 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Game 2
Wichita
State - 5
Texas
Tech - 2
Wichita
State rebounded in game two as the Shockers put up three runs in the third
inning and then Hull capped the scoring with her second home run of the season,
a two-run blast, to give WSU a 5-2 win.
The second
day split for Wichita State puts the Shockers at 8-7 on the season. The win also snaps the Red Raider's 15-game
winning streak.
Hull went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI while Gerritse was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Shook had a hit, a run scored and an RBI in four trips to the plate.
Shocker
starting pitcher Kasha Kolb followed up a two-hit, one run performance against
Boise State on Friday with a shutout win against the Red Raiders on Saturday,
holding the home team to only two runs on eight hits.
Texas
Tech got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning as Stephanie Drewry hit
a triple to right-field and then came around to score on infield single by Leah
Legler. Holly Gentsch plated another
run for the Red Raider's in the bottom of the sixth as Texas Tech closed the
gap to three.
Kolb got the first batter in the seventh before giving way to Armogast who picked up her first collegiate save and the first of the year for the Shockers, getting a strike out and a ground out to end the game.
Kolb pitched 6 2/3 innings, striking out six Texas Tech batters to pick up her fourth win of the year.
Mikey Kenney was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Red Raiders.
The Shockers will wrap up competition at the Texas Tech Tournament on Sunday, Mar. 7, when they get a rematch with the Red Raiders. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
