Box Score LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State took the three-game
series with the Shockers (10-3) by winning game three 7-3. WSU won game one of the series while the
Dirtbags won the final two games.
Travis Bennett went 2-for-3, while Bret Bascue went 1-for-1
with a home run. Starter Charlie Lowell
took the loss. He pitched 4.1 innings
and gave up five earned runs.
LBSU jumped out fast with two runs in the first inning off
of Charlie Lowell. A double down the
third base line by Devin Lohman scored Brennan Metzger from first after he
reached on a hit by pitch. A single to
right field by Joey Terdoslavich drove in Lohman to give the Dirtbags an early
2-0 lead.
The Shockers cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth
inning. Cody Lassley singled to left
center with one out and advanced to second on a groundout by Travis
Bennett. Ryan Jones two-out single to
right field drove in Lassley to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Dirtbags answered with a run in the bottom of the
fourth. Devin Lohman reached on a
Shocker error to start the inning and advanced to second on a single by
Terdoslavich. Lohman advanced to third
on another Shocker error on a failed pickoff attempt and scored on a groundout
by Steve Tinoco to put the Dirtbags in front 3-1.
LBSU added four more in the fifth to increase the lead to 7-1. Bret Bascue homered in the eighth and the
Shockers tacked on another run in the ninth for the final score of 7-3.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., March 16 at
Arizona. First pitch is scheduled for 8
p.m. Central time.
