BreAnna Dawkins nearly matched her career high with 14
points but Wichita State stumbled 98-73 at Central Michigan Wednesday
afternoon. The Shockers fell behind early
after missing their first 11 shots from the field and were never able to
recover.
It took nearly nine minutes for the Shockers to register a
field goal and it came on a Heather Robben three-pointer at the 11:02
mark. Jazimen Gordon quickly followed
with a layup and the Shockers pulled within 14-6. Central Michigan followed with a 5-0 spurt
and never let its lead dip below double digits.
Gordon ended with a season-high 13 points and three blocked
shots. Dawkins, in addition to leading
the team with her 14 points, topped the squad in rebounds (8), assists (6), and
steals (3). Robben turned in her third
straight double figure scoring game with 11 points. Haleigh Lankster and Morgan Boyd contributed
10 points each.
Three Chippewas tallied double-doubles. Kaihla Szunko paced the attack with 22 points
and 10 rebounds, Brandie Baker added 16 points and 10 boards, and Skylar Miller
produced 15 points and 11 caroms.
Wichita State wrapped up the non-conference schedule with a
6-5 record and next begin Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday, Dec. 31st
at 7:05 p.m. vs. Evansville.
