Shocks Fall in Four to Bluejays

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Wichita State fell in four sets to Creighton in the semifinals of the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.  The Bluejays won by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-12.

Camri Zwiesler led the Shockers with 13 kills and 21 digs.  Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 37 assists, Sarah Waldorf had 23 digs and Ashley Andrade had nine blocks.

The first set went back-and-forth until back-to-back kills from Emily Adney gave WSU a 5-3 lead.  CU tied it back up at five, but kills from Mary Elizabeth Hooper and Camri Zwiesler put WSU up 7-5.  A kill by Amanda Backes increased the lead to 13-10, but the Bluejays cut it to 13-11 after a Shocker hitting error.  A block by Elizabeth Field and Zwiesler got the lead back to three at 17-14, but back-to-back service aces by Julianne Mandolfo gave the Bluejays a 19-18 lead.  The Shockers tied it at 21 after a CU hitting error, but back-to-back kills from Allie Oelke and Megan Bober gave CU a 23-21 lead.  The Bluejays closed out the set 25-21.

An Alicia Runge kill gave CU a 6-3 lead in the second set and a kill by Oelke increased it to 9-5.  A kill by Laurel Sanford made the score 12-8 and led to a WSU timeout.  The Bluejays continued to hold a four-point lead until back-to-back kills from Zwiesler cut the lead to 18-15.  The Bluejays went on to win the set 25-19.

The two teams traded points in the third set until the Shockers went up 9-6 behind the serving of Backes.  A kill by Zwiesler increased the lead to 11-7 and a Backes kill made the score 17-12.  A service ace by Ashley Andrade put the Shocks in front 20-12 and a Zwiesler kill gave WSU the 25-17 win.

  A Runge kill gave CU a 6-4 advantage in the fourth set and an Oelke kill increased the lead to 10-5.  The Bluejays took a commanding 19-7 lead and won the set 25-12.

The Shockers will find out their next opponent on Sun., Nov. 28 on the NCAA Tournament selection show which is at 2 p.m. Central time on ESPNews.
