Box Score NORMAL, Ill. - Wichita State used a career-high 23 kills
from Emily Adney to defeat Illinois State in four sets. The Shockers (15-5, 8-3) won by scores of
25-22, 25-13, 24-26 and 25-15.
Adney also added 10 digs for the double-double, while Camri
Zwiesler had 14 kills and a career-high 21 digs. Jackie Church chipped in 21 digs, while Mary
Elizabeth Hooper had 46 assists and 14 digs.
The Shockers opened up the first set with six-straight
points including two kills by Emily Adney and two from Amanda Backes. The Redbirds came back within one at 12-11,
but the Shockers responded to take a 16-12 lead. Back-to-back kills from Camri Zwielser and
Adney gave WSU a 22-18 lead and the Shockers held on to win 25-22.
The Redbirds scored the first point of the second set, but
the Shockers then reeled off five-straight to take a 5-1 lead. The Shockers used a 4-0 run to take an 11-3
lead and increased it to 15-5 after back-to-back kills by Zwiesler. WSU finished out the set 25-13 on a kill from
Adney.
The third set went back-and-forth most of the way. The Shockers fell behind 14-12, but tied it
at 14 on a kill from Sarah McGee. The
Redbirds came back to take an 18-17 lead with a kill and then held on to win
26-24.
The Shockers jumped out early in the fourth set and took an
8-3 lead after a kill from Adney. A
Backes kill made the score 13-6 and WSU cruised to the 25-15 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Oct. 29 when they
host Missouri State at 7 p.m.
