Shocks Sweep Evansville, 3-0

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State Shockers defeated the Evansville Aces 25-18, 25-18 and 25-13 in front of 2,507 fans at Charles Koch Arena.  The win improved Wichita State's record to 13-5, 6-3 on the season and dropped Evansville to 16-5, 5-4.

Junior WSU setter Mary Elizabeth Hooper had a match high 32 assists and added five kills and 10 digs.  Shocker sophomores Jackie Church and Emily Adney had a match high 25 digs and 14 kills, respectively.

A kill by senior Sarah McGee gave the Shockers their first lead, 5-4 of the set.  Evansville took a 10-6 lead on an attack error by McGee.  The Shockers battled back to take a 13-11 lead on a Camri Zwiesler kill to force the Aces to take their first timeout.  Another kill by Zwiesler pushed the lead to 19-13 and forced Evansville to use their final timeout.  A kill by Hooper gave the Shockers a 24-17 lead and after an Evansville point the Shockers took set one with a kill by middle blocker Elizabeth Field, 25-18.

The Shockers built a 7-1 lead on a block from Adney and an attack error by the Aces and forced Evansville to use their first timeout of the second set.  Out of the timeout, Evansville scored three straight but WSU answered with four straight points, the last on a Hooper kill to take an 11-4 lead.  After trading points, WSU took a 17-8 lead on a Zwiesler kill but Evansville answered with three straight points and forced the Shockers to take their first timeout of the match at 17-11, Shockers.   A kill by Field, and four hits by the Aces gave the Shockers set point, 24-17.  Adney's tenth kill of the match gave the Shockers set two, 25-18.

Wichita State jumped out to a 12-4 lead with a Zwiesler kill in the third set.  A kill by Hooper and Adney gave the Shock a 15-7 lead.  The Shockers would go on to score the next four points, the last on another kill by Adney to go up 19-7.  Evansville battled back to cut the lead to 20-11 and forced a Shockers timeout after an attack error.  The Shockers answered with four straight points: a kill by Field, two block assists by McGee and Amanda Backes and a kill by McGee to give them match point at 24-11.  McGee won the match for the Shockers with her eighth kill of the match, 25-13.

The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Oct. 22 when they travel to Indiana State.
