Shocks Fall at Creighton, 89-48

OMAHA, Neb.- Wichita State's offense never got on track on a chilly night in Omaha as the Shockers (10-4, 2-1) fell to Creighton (8-4, 3-0), 89-48.

Jessica Diamond led the Shockers with 11 points on the night while CU's Megan Neuvirth led the Bluejay attack with 16 points, 12 of which came in the second half.


The Bluejays opened the game on a 17-4 run in which four different players scored. WSU couldn't get going inside and was forced to settle for jumpers. Sheena Johnson and Chynna Turner connected on 15-footers to provide the early scoring for the Shockers.

Jessica Diamond came off the bench to score seven points in the first half. Her 3-pointer from the top of the key made it 43-19 with just under a minute before the intermission.

Two Kelsey Crites free-throws made it 45-21 at the half.

Turner got WSU off to a good start in the second half, scoring the teams four points of the half with an inside basket and two free throws. Diamond continued her hot shooting with a nice drive and jumper to cut the deficit to 59-30.

Ashley Gladden provided a spark for WSU in the second half with two baskets, one of which came off a steal and feed from Marisah Henderson with 5:46 to play.

After being shutout in the first half, Haleigh Lankster got on the board for the Shockers with a 3-pointer at the 7:50 mark and finished with eight points.

The Shockers are back in action Sat., Jan. 9, in Des Moines, Iowa, as the Shockers take on Drake.
