Box Score

WICHITA -- Indiana State (30-14, 12-4 MVC) never allowed a Shocker leadoff hitter to reach base as the Sycamores took the series with a 5-3 win over the Wichita State baseball team (24-22, 8-7 MVC) Sunday afternoon at Eck Stadium.

Indiana State started the scoring in the first after Ryan Strausborger took the second pitch of the game into center field for a leadoff single. After bunted over to second, Strausborger stole third and came home on a ground ball to give the Sycamores a 1-0 lead before the Shockers came to bat.

The Shockers tied the game in the bottom of the frame after Ryan Jones singled through the left side with one out, and advanced to second on a balk by Sycamore starter Joe Rodriguez. Will Baez then poked a ball into left field, scoring Jones to even the score 1-1 after one.

ISU scored one in both the second and the third but WSU answered with a pair in the bottom of the third on a two-out double by Ryan Engrav that tied the game, 3-3.

The Sycamores regained the lead on a two-out single by Joe Meggs in the fifth that scored two, giving ISU a 5-3 edge, a score that would hold over the final innings to give Indiana State the series win.

Meggs went 2-for-3 with three RBI to pace the Indiana State offense, while leadoff hitter Ryan Strausborger went 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Charlie Lowell (5-2) went seven innings, giving up 10 hits and five earned runs while walking three and striking out four in the losing effort.

Ryan Jones went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Will Baez went 2-for-4.
