Shocks Score Senior Night Win

WICHITA -- Wichita State made big plays down the stretch to preserve a 76-70 win over Indiana State on Tuesday night in front of a sellout crowd at Charles Koch Arena.

Toure' Murry found J.T. Durley with a behind-the back pass for a crucial reverse layup to put the Shockers up seven with 35 seconds to play. After a Rashad Reed three, senior Ramon Clemente hit four-of-six free throws, and ISU made a two costly turnovers in the last 30 seconds to preserve the Shocker win.

Durley led the Shockers on the night with 16 points and six rebounds. Clevin Hannah and A.J. Hawkins each chipped in 12 points, and Garrett Stutz made the most of his minutes with 10 points.

Jay Tunnell and Rashad Reed led the Sycamore attack with 22 and 19 points, respectively. Tunnell added seven rebounds.

The Shocker defense held Indiana State to just 37 percent shooting (18-for-48) and forced 13 turnovers. Wichita State held a plus-two rebounding edge and only turned the ball over nine times.

After giving up the game's opening points, a three by ISU's Harry Marshall, the Shockers reeled off 11 straight points, fueled by back-to-back buckets from J.T. Durley. Durley scored six points during the five-minute stretch, which saw the Shockers hold Indiana State without a field goal.

The Shocker defense got off to a good start as well, forcing five ISU turnovers in the first seven minutes. WSU turned those giveaways into seven points, including a steal and layin by Clevin Hannah for a 13-7 lead with 13:08 remaining the first half.

Hannah followed two ISU free throws with a deep three, extending the Shocker lead to eight points, 16-8, heading into the under-12 media timeout. Hannah's three started a quick 13-4 run by the Shockers. Aaron Ellis came off the bench to score back-to-back baskets. Reggie Chamberlain's consecutive three-points made the score 26-12 at the 9:11 mark.

The Sycamores responded with a 21-7 to come all the way back and tie the score at 33-33 with 2:13 left in the half. Rashad Reed had 10 points during the stretch for ISU, including eight from the free throw line. The Shockers went 6:39 without a field goal before, Durley made an up-and-under post move to give the Shockers the lead back, 35-33 at the 1:19 mark.

ISU's Jay Tunnell scored inside the last minute to knot the score at 35 apiece heading into the break. Durley led the Shockers in the first half with eight points and three boards. Tunnell scored 14 for the Sycamores.

The Shockers came out in the second half aggressive on the offensive boards, scoring two second-chance buckets as part of a 6-0 run and a 41-35 lead. The teams traded buckets through the under-12 media timeout. The Shockers moved the lead to seven 49-42 on a two Garrett Stutz free throws. One possession later, Stutz pump-faked a three and took the ball to the rack, converting and making the free throw for a double-digit Shocker lead.

After Tunnell knocked down two free throws to cut the Shocker lead to 55-47, Hannah found A.J. Hawkins on an alley-oop dunk and a 10-point lead. But, on the next two ISU possessions, Tunnell and Marshall each knocked down a three-pointer to cut the lead to four, 57-53

Murry found Stutz underneath on a nice ffed for a layin and a seven-point Shocker lead, but Jordan Printy answered with a three for Indiana State to bring the score to 64-60 inside of three minutes.

The Shockers are back in action in their final regular season game at Southern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 28.
