Shocks Sweep Redbirds

Box Score NORMAL, Ill. - Wichita State improved to 22-5 on the year with a sweep of Illinois State.  The Shockers won by scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 25-18.

Emily Stockman led WSU with 12 kills and 11 digs while Kim Wadsworth added 10 kills.  Mary Elizabeth Hooper collected 34 assists and Melissa Granville had 21 digs.

The Redbirds took a commanding 9-3 lead early in the first set.  The teams traded points through the middle part of the set before the Shockers pulled to within 20-18 after a kill by Mary Elizabeth Hooper.  A 4-0 WSU run gave the Shocks their first lead of the set at 22-21, but the Redbirds used a kill to tie the score at 24.  A block by Sarah McGee and Emily Adney and a Redbird hitting error gave WSU a 26-24 win.

A kill by Kim Wadsworth put the Shocks in front 10-8 in the second set and a kill by Emily Adney increased the lead to 18-13.  WSU continued to lead the rest of the way in a 25-20 win.

The teams raced out to a 7-7 tie in the third set.  An Adney kill gave WSU a 14-10 advantage and back-to-back kills by Wadsworth put WSU in front 19-12.  The Shockers cruised to the 25-18 win.

The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. at Indiana State.
