WICHITA, Kan. - The Shockers caught fire early to run the table against the Drake Bulldogs in front of their home crowd to collect the sweep, 25-9, 25-21, 25-12.
A service ace by Emily Stockman put the Shockers (17-4, 8-3) up 6-2 in the first set and a Sarah McGee kill increased the lead to 9-3. The Shockers continued to cruise as back-to-back service aces by Melissa Granville gave WSU an 11-3 advantage and the Shocks closed out the set 25-9 on a kill by Stockman.
The Bulldogs grabbed an early 7-3 lead in the second set, but a kill by Kim Wadsworth pulled WSU to within 9-7. The Shockers tied the score at 11 after a DU setting error and took a 12-11 lead with a kill from Stockman. A McGee kill increased the lead to 19-14, but the Bulldogs cut the lead to 21-18 with a kill. The teams traded points the rest of the way as WSU won 25-21.
The third set went back and forth until WSU took a 13-8 lead with a block by Stephanie Tokarz and McGee. A kill by Mary Elizabeth Hooper increased the lead to 17-10 and WSU cruised to the 25-12 win.
Senior middle blocker Katie Niggemeyer sparked with offense with 11 kills and a smoking .611 hitting percentage. Stockman added 13 kills and 13 digs against the Bulldogs.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 31 against Creighton at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
