WICHITA -- The Shockers rang up 20 more kills than the Bears of Missouri State as the home team put on a display of offensive power en route to the sweep, 25-14, 25-15, 25-20.
The first set was all Shockers as they were able to jump out early and stay that way en route to a 25-14 victory. Junior middle Sarah McGee had a staggering seven kills as the Shocks hit .277 in the opening set while holding the Bears to just .047.
In the second set, the Shocks continued to show their offensive dominance. They broke out to an early 9-6 lead using a back-to-back kills from McGee and senior middle Katie Niggemeyer. An Emily Stockman kill and a defensive block pushed WSU out to a commanding, 19-10 lead.Two more McGee kills finished the set, 25-15.
Friday's third and final set bundled a big lead and a close match into one. Seven Shocker kills in the first 13 points propelled the Shockers to an 11-2 lead. The Bears fought back, closing the gap, 12-9. Wichita State never let off the gas, however, as the Shocks were able to stay out of reach for the remainder of the set. A strong defensive block ended the set and decided the match, 25-20.
Senior outside hitter Emily Stockman led the Shockers with 16 kills while McGee paced the offense with a .583 hitting percentage and 14 kills of her own. Sophomore setter Mary Elizabeth Hooper passed out 43 assists.
The Shockers are in action next against Drake on Friday in Charles Koch Arena.
