Shocks Fall in Four at CU

Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - The Shockers lost the first two sets at Creighton and tried to rally, but the Bluejays won in four sets.  CU won by scores of 26-24, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-20.

Sarah McGee led the Shockers with 12 kills and seven blocks while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 41 assists and Melissa Granville had 23 digs.

The teams traded points early in the first set until a service ace by Jackie Church put the Shocks up 7-5.  Back-to-back kills from Kim Wadsworth and Emily Adney increased the lead to 16-9, but the Bluejays scored four-straight points to pull within 18-15.  The Bluejays tied it at 21 after a WSU hitting error and won the set 26-24 after another Shocker hitting error.

The Bluejays raced out to a 12-7 lead in the second set and increased it to 18-8 with a kill.  WSU used a 4-0 run to pull within 18-12, but CU won the set 25-18.

The Shockers jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the third set and increased it to 16-10 after a CU hitting error.  The Bluejays used a 5-0 run to pull within 17-16, but the Shockers held on to win 25-23.

A WSU hitting error gave CU a 9-6 lead in the fourth set, but a kill by Katie Niggemeyer tied the score at 12.  The teams went back and forth until a Bluejay kill put them up 17-15. CU went on to win the set 25-20.         

The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 3 when they play at Drake.
