Box Score NORMAN, Okla. - Wichita
State improved to 2-0 on the year with a sweep over host Oklahoma at the Sooner
Legends Nike Invitational. The Shockers
won by scores of 32-30, 25-13 and 26-24.
The first set went back and forth with neither team having a
lead larger than four. The Shockers
finally won the game 32-30 after back-to-back OU hitting errors.
In the second set, the Shockers pulled away with a 10-0 run
behind the serving of Mary Elizabeth Hooper to grab a 20-7 lead. WSU never looked back in the 25-13 win.
OU raced out to a 5-0 lead in the third set, but the
Shockers rallied to tie it at 13. The
teams traded points until a Sooner hitting error and a kill by Emily Stockman
gave the Shocks a 26-24 victory.
Emily Stockman led the Shockers with 16 kills and 18 digs,
while Mary Elizabeth Hooper added six kills, 26 assists and eight digs. Kelly Broussard had a match-high 27 digs.
The Shockers held the Sooners to a .044 hitting percentage
in the match and out dug OU 74-53.
WSU finishes the tournament against Michigan State at 11
a.m. on Saturday
