Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The Shockers gave up 16 hits to the Golden Eagles, as ORU's Kelly Minissale shut out Wichita State, 12-0.
Oral Roberts put up a four-spot in the top of the second and never looked back as the Golden Eagles powered out 12 runs and 16 hits behind the bat of Nick Van Kirk. Van Kirk went 4-for-5 with, contributing two runs and three RBI.
ORU used six hits to plate four runs in the second, but it was Van Kirk's two-run Homer in the fifth that capped a six-run inning that shut the door on the Wichita State.
Minissale (2-3) threw the complete game and scattered seven hits while walking two and striking out six.
Andy Dirks and Ryan Jones were the only Shockers with multiple hits off the left-hander.
WSU went to the bullpen early, trying to find an answer to stopping ORU's offensive surge. Starter Tim Kelley was knocked out after two innings of work in which the redshirt freshman gave up four earned runs on eight hits. Kelley fell even on the season at 4-4. Logan Hoch was tagged with five earned runs and hits.
Andy Womack and Justin Kemp were the only Shockers to hold ORU hitless and scoreless in their time on the mound. Womack threw two innings and Kemp pitched the eighth.
Matt Smith was greeted with a David Genao homerun before closing out the ninth. Tyler Fleming gave up two earned runs, while only recording one out.
The Shockers host Bradley in the last regular season series starting Thursday at 7 p.m., at Eck Stadium. Game two is Friday also at 7 p.m., before Saturday wraps up the three-game stretch at 2 p.m. The Missouri Valley Conference Tournament begins Wednesday, May 21, in Wichita.
