Box Score Omaha, Neb.- Wichita State committed three errors, leading to a 7-3 loss against the Creighton Bluejays.
It was a mid-April game, but it looked like early January as large snow flurries fell the entire game. Â Despite the weather, the teams were able to get in a full game as WSU starter Rob Musgrave (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season,
Back-to-back Shocker errors led to Creighton's first two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nick Nordgren worked a full count for a lead off walk and Elliot Soto laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner, but an errant throw by freshman second baseman Taylor Brown allowed Soto to reach first. Robbie Knight grounded into a fielder's choice, but all runners were safe with a bad throw from third baseman Conor Gillaspie. The inning should have been over, but it continued on an RBI grounder from Michael Lam and a sacrifice fly from Darin Riff scored run two.
Ryan Jones sparked the next half with a double off the right field wall. Gillaspie followed with a single to the right side, moving Jones to third. Jones scored on a wild pitch in the next at bat off of reliever Pat Venditte as Tyler Weber drew a walk. Kenny Williams, Jr., helped the Shockers take the lead, driving in two with a double in the right-center gap.
CU would tie it up in the seventh after a hit batter came home on a sacrifice bunt from Soto and a double by Knight.
The Bluejays regained the lead in the eighth and held on to the ninth to secure the 7-3 win. With one out, Vicente Cafaro was hit by the pitch and then Musgrave allowed two consecutive singles after allowing only two hits through the first seven innings. Brett Mieras bunted for a singled down the first base line and Joe Servais drove one into left field for an RBI single. Andy Womack took over on the mound and got his first batter on strikes before allowing a Soto single and a Knight hit that scored two more.
Musgrave was tagged with four earned runs on four hits with three walks and three hit batsmen while striking out six in 7.1 innings. Womack gave up one earned run on two hits in 0.2 innings.
Jones finished with two hits and Williams contributed two RBI.
