CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois (8-13, 4-7) snapped a four-game losing skid with a 66-54 win over Wichita State (8-15, 2-9), Sunday afternoon at SIU Arena.

Kiki Stephens led the Shockers with her second-straight double-double scoring 20 points and pulling down 10 rebounds on the afternoon. Whitney Rice scored a season-high 10 points on the day while Kyrie Kinder and Daria Frazier each finished with three steals.

SIU was led by Ellen Young's 20 points.

Both squads were sluggish offensively early on, combining to go just 2-for-10 from the field and a total of nine turnovers in the opening miunutes.

A five-minute scoring drought by the Shockers fueled an 11-2 run by SIU, as the Salukis broke out to a 13-5 edge following Erin Pauk's first 3-pointer with 11:18 left in the first. Ellen Young then connected on a pair of 3-pointers to push SIU's lead to 21-9 by the 9:00 mark.

A late run by the Shockers cut the deficit to nine by halftime, as Stephens ended the half with a team-high 10 points, trimming the SIU lead to 33-22 at the break. The Salukis shot 44-percent from the floor in the first frame, while WSU was limited to just a 30-percent effort from the field, including an 0-for-11 clip from the Wichita State guards.

SIU opened the second with a pair of Kaci Bailey 3-pointers to help keep WSU down by double-digits early on, with the Shockers unable to make a sizeable dent in the deficit over the first 15 minutes of the second.

A Sweere 3-pointer with 3:54 left gave SIU a 60-45 lead, but the Shockers answered with a pair of steals and a Jacie Hoyt 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 60-48 with 3:00 left to play. The Salukis were not rattled however, as Sweere scored on an inbounds play to give SIU a 62-48 advantage with 2:00 left.

The Shockers ended the afternoon with just three baskets in the final 6:52 of game, and just four assists on the day.

Wichita State returns home next week to take on Bradley and UNI.
